Tips & Substitutions

I typically buy the Goya cream of coconut in the international section of my grocery store. It is less expensive than the Coco Real drink mix and has a natural coconut flavor.

You’ll need to shake the can well before opening. I also place the contents into a medium plastic bowl and whisk for 10 seconds until smooth.

Of course, if you are in a hurry, then use the prepared Coco Real cream of coconut drink mix. All you have to do is just squeeze it into your measuring cap and pour it into the blender. If you want a Pina Colada with a twist, swap the rum for Amaretto and you’ll have an Almond Joy. Yummy!

How to make a Pina Colada

This tropical cocktail recipe is easy to make. Just add the rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice and ice to a blender and blend for 30 seconds. Pour the mixture into a tall glass and garnish with pineapple.

If you don’t have a blender, you can add all of the ingredients to a shaker half filled with ice and shake well. Pour the strained contents of the shaker into a glass filled with crushed ice and top it off with a pineapple garnish. If you don’t have a good shaker, try this one from OXO.
