Tip

Need to know what champagne to buy? I am not a champagne connoisseur. I’ve tried expensive champagnes like Dom Pérignon, Jouet, and Veuve Clicquot. But if I’m mixing champagne, I tend to stay under $15. Sweet champagnes are my preference, but until recently, I didn’t know that Brut meant unsweet and Extra Dry sweet. As you can see from the photo, I settled on Korbel Extra Dry.

Bar Tools

Here are awesome products to help YOU make the most incredible drinks. Impress your family and friends and be the BEST Cocktail Barista in your neighborhood.

You can only have a champagne cocktail with champagne flutes. Well, you can, but it’s just different. If you don’t have any champagne flutes, try thesethey are simple yet elegant.

Mixing a great cocktail requires a great shaker. I have at least a dozen shakers, but one favorite. The shaker doesn’t leak; you won’t have to hit the shaker against the sink to get the top off, and the cap will measure from 1/2 to 1.5 ounces with clearly marked labels. Measure the perfect amount every time. And it is dishwasher safe!

How to make the Champagne Sunset

You can use either lemon from a bottle or freshly squeezed lemon juice. Of course, freshly squeezed lemon juice is best. If you don’t have a lemon squeezer, try this one. The non-slip grip is perfect for squeezing lemons and limes.

Start by chilling your champagne thoroughly. A well-chilled base will enhance the overall experience of your cocktail.

If using fresh tangerines, squeeze enough to obtain 1 ounce of fresh juice. The natural sweetness and citrusy zing of tangerines will complement the other flavors in the cocktail. Tangerine juice and tangerines may be difficult to find, so I use Izze Sparkling Clementine.

Pour the brandy, tangerine, and lemon juices into a shaker half full of ice. Shake for 5 seconds, then pour the strained ingredients into a chilled champagne flute. Top it off with no more than 5 ounces of champagne and stir gently.

You can garnish the Champagne Sunset with a sprig of fresh mint, optional.

Note

It would be best if you had champagne flutes that are 8 ounces or less. The larger the champagne flute, the less the recipe will fill your glass. More champagne also changes the taste of the cocktail.
