Discover Falernum’s Bold & Tropical Flavor: Passion in a Glass the Broken Spanish
Nashville may be famous for its live music and honky-tonk bars, but tucked among the neon lights and guitar riffs lies a flavor-packed gem—Calacas Mexican Cuisine. Here, you’ll find the Broken Spanish.
This cocktail transports you straight to a sunny Caribbean beach while keeping your boots firmly planted in the heart of Tennessee. It’s proof that Nashville isn’t just about whiskey and beer—it’s also a city where tropical flavors find a home.

Meet Falernum – Barbados’ Liquid Sunshine
The star of the Broken Spanish is Falernum, a sweet, spiced liqueur from Barbados that’s bursting with flavors of ginger, zesty lime, smooth almond, and often a hint of warm cloves or allspice. In this drink, it mingles perfectly with smooth vodka, zesty Cointreau, tangy passion fruit juice, fresh lime juice, and a drizzle of agave for balance. The result? A drink that’s bright, tangy, and subtly spiced—like a vacation for your taste buds.

- Vodka
- Cointreau
- Velvet Falernum
- Blue Agave Nectar
- Passion Fruit Juice
Tip
Use good quality spirits. The better the ingredients, the better your cocktail will taste. I like to use either Stoli (Stolichnaya), Absolut, or Ketel One Vodka for mixed drinks. They are good-quality, mid-priced vodkas.

Here is an awesome product to help YOU make the most incredible drinks. Impress your family and friends and be the BEST Cocktail Barista in your neighborhood.
Need a great Cocktail Shaker but don’t know which one to buy? Look no further
Martini or cocktail, a good shake makes all the difference in the world so buying a cocktail shaker can seriously step up your at-home drink game. Think about it: no more settling for boring mixed drinks when you can whip up bar-quality cocktails in your kitchen. It’s not just about the fancy presentation (although that’s a fun bonus) but also about how it makes mixing drinks easier and more fun.
I have at least a dozen shakers, but one favorite. The shaker doesn’t leak; you won’t have to hit the shaker against the sink to get the top off, and the cap will measure from 1/2 to 1.5 ounces with clearly marked labels. Measure the perfect amount every time. And it is dishwasher safe!
Plus, once you get the hang of shaking, you’ll feel like a total pro, impressing your friends and yourself with your newfound bartending skills. So why not add a little shake, shake, shake to your life and upgrade your happy hour?

Patio Bar Setup

And don’t forget the glasses. This drink is meant to be enjoyed outside in the beautiful summer weather. You don’t want to take glass on the boat or by the pool so these 20 ounce acrylic glasses (shown below – last picture in post) are perfect for any outdoor occasion. Keep in mind that you can put a ‘double’, 2 portions of the Broken Spanish in the 20 ounce glass.
If you are looking for a single serving, the 14 ounce acrylic glasses (shown above) are a better choice. Remember, add lots of ice!
How to Make a Broken Spanish
Add the vodka, Falernum, Cointreau, passion fruit juice, lime juice, and agave to a shaker half full of ice.
Shake vigorously for 15 seconds, then pour the strained ingredients into a glass filled with ice.
