You’ll need Vodka. For an all-around good Vodka you can try Absolut, Tito’s or Ketel One. I found the Watermelon Puree, it’s a bit pricey so I tried the Watermelon Syrup as well. Using the Watermelon Syrup does not make the same cocktail. Honestly, it was terrible. The Watermelon Puree is the way to go. Last but not least, you’ll need Sweet & Sour mix and club soda.

OXO Steel Cocktail Shaker

Martini or cocktail, I find that a good shake makes all the difference in the world. I have at least a dozen shakers but this one from OXO is by far my favorite. It doesn’t leak, and the cap is a measuring cup that will measure from 1/2 ounce to 1.5 ounces. And it is dishwasher safe! You can’t go wrong with OXO.

And don’t forget the glasses. This drink is meant to be enjoyed outside in the beautiful summer weather. You don’t want to take glass on the boat or by the pool so the 20 ounce acrylic glasses (shown above) are perfect for any out door occasion. Keep in mind that you can put a ‘double’, 2 portions of the Melon Mixer in the 20 ounce glass. If you are looking for a single serving, the 15 ounce acrylic glasses in the photo below are a better choice. Remember, add lots of ice!

Since the Watermelon Puree is a bit expensive, I decided to make a pitcher of Melon Mixers for my 4th of July Party. You can mix it up the night before, put it in the refrigerator, and when ready to serve, stir well and add ice. No need to add the club soda. Everyone will love the Melon Mixer!

Ingredients

  • 2 Ounces Vodka For cocktails I typically use Absolut
  • 1 Ounce Watermelon Puree
  • 1 Ounce Sweet & Sour Mix
  • Splash of club soda

Instructions

  • Fill a shaker half full of ice
  • Add the vodka, watermelon puree, sweet & sour and club soda
  • Shake gently and pour into a cocktail glass filled with ice

Notes

I found that the watermelon puree can be a bit pricey if you are making just a couple of drinks. Instead I made a pitcher of Melon Mixers for my 4th or July party. They can be made one day in advance, and stored in the refrigerator with no ice. When you are ready to serve, add ice to the pitcher instead of the club soda.
