Jello-Shots for your next tailgate party!

How would you like to be the hit of the next tailgate party supporting your NCAA or NFL Team with the best tasting Jello-Shots! I love Jello-Shots, for their great fruit flavors, and sparkling colors. But this is the fall, and I want something that will make me feel warm and fuzzy on those cool football weekends.

These awesome colored Jello Shots don’t use any Jello, but are made with gelatin instead. It gives them more of a solid color and pie consistency. When making your Jello Shots, first place 28 Jello-Shot cups on a baking sheet. I use both the squeezable Jello-Shot cups above and the flat round Jello-Shot cups below. Click here to learn the difference between the 2 different styles of Jello-Shot cups.

Make sure you have a large spouted mixing bowl. You can just pour from the spouted mixing bowl right into the Jello-Shot cups.

The next step is the most difficult. Sprinkling the Gelatin slowly on top of the Vodka. It’s not as easy as it seems to sprinkle slowly. It shouldn’t clump up, but look like all of the Gelatin has touched the Vodka. My recipe card below describes this in detail.

Once you let the Gelatin sit for 5 minutes you are home free. Add your Gel Food Coloring to the boiling water, stir into the Gelatin mixture, stir for 3 minutes, then add the sweetened condensed milk and stir until combined. Pour into your Jello-Shot cups and repeat for your second color.

Grey is not an easy color to find in food coloring but I did find a ‘stone’ colored food coloring on Amazon. Check out the food coloring links on my Tools of the Trade page.

These NCAA Jello-Shots can be made in a variety of fall flavors like Pumpkin PieApple PieCaramelGingerbreadChocolateCoconutMounds Bar, or Almond Joy. For the recipe below I used Whipped Cream Vodka. What flavors better represent the crisp fall weather other than the ones I listed.

Notes

Gelatin can be a little tricky to work with the first time you use it in a recipe. The secret is to ‘slowly‘ sprinkle the gelatin on top of the liquid. If you see that it is clumping up, then you are sprinkling to quickly. This is the longest process in this entire recipe. If you do have some dry patches, don’t worry, make sure your water is boiling before adding it to the gelatin mixture and stir until the clumps are dissolved. These “not really” Jello-Shots will taste so good, and represent your Team so well, nobody will care that some gelatin didn’t dissolve.
Red food coloring is a bit tricky to use. If you don’t think the color is dark enough, add a tablespoon of hot water and 1/4 teaspoon of food coloring to a small bowl and stir until combined. Then add the food coloring mixture to your gelatin mixture and stir well.
