I love Jello Shots because they have great fruit flavors and sparkling colors. BUT this is football season, and for football Jello Shots, it’s time to go beyond basic fruity flavors and rainbow colors and explore the variety offered by flavored Vodka, Rum, and Whiskey. Tailgating should be a fun and flavorful experience and using different spirits can make your Jello Shots stand out.

Ready to represent your team in Jello Shot form? If you want those bold college football colors to pop, it all starts with the base. I like to use a splash of sweetened condensed milk—it gives the shots a solid, opaque look, so your Jello Shot colors shine as bright as their uniforms. Game day never looked so good!

Tips

For flavored vodkas I like both Veil and Pinnacle, they are both reasonably priced.

For the apple vodka, try Absolut Juice. This vodka contains real apple juice. If you can’t find Absolut, Cîroc has a great apple vodka. Do not use Sour Apple Vodka.

As you can see from the photo, the box of Wilton gel food colors contains 12 different colors in .5 oz containers, which is enough for one batch of Jello Shots.

If you need a color not in the box, AmeriColor and Chefmaster make gold, grey, silver, and many more.

Bar Tools

Here is an awesome product to help YOU make the most incredible drinks. Impress your family and friends and be the BEST Cocktail Barista in your neighborhood.

Need a great Cocktail Shaker but don’t know which one to buy? Look no further

Easy to Read Measuring Cap - Included
Easy to Read Measuring Cap – Included

Martini or cocktail, a good shake makes all the difference in the world so buying a cocktail shaker can seriously step up your at-home drink game. Think about it: no more settling for boring mixed drinks when you can whip up bar-quality cocktails in your kitchen. It’s not just about the fancy presentation (although that’s a fun bonus) but also about how it makes mixing drinks easier and more fun.

I have at least a dozen shakers, but one favorite. The shaker doesn’t leak; you won’t have to hit the shaker against the sink to get the top off, and the cap will measure from 1/2 to 1.5 ounces with clearly marked labels. Measure the perfect amount every time. And it is dishwasher safe!

Plus, once you get the hang of shaking, you’ll feel like a total pro, impressing your friends and yourself with your newfound bartending skills. So why not add a little shake, shake, shake to your life and upgrade your happy hour?

To make your Jello Shots, you’ll need Jello Shot cups. Click here to learn the differences between the 3 different styles of Jello Shot cups. I use the squeezable Jello Shot cups, the flat round Jello Shot cups above, and the square Jello Shot cups.

Large Spouted Mixing Bowl with Handle
Large Spouted Mixing Bowl with Handle

The second most important item is a large spouted mixing bowl with a handle. This bowl makes pouring the liquid into the Jello Shot cups easy. I have seen ‘tools’ on Amazon that assist you with filling your Jello Shot cups, but the bowl with the spout works well. Of course, you may have a few drips here and there, but I need more to invest in one of those tools.

How to make Apple Pie Jello Shots

First, place 26 2-ounce Jello Shot cups on a baking sheet.

To Make the First Team Color

Pour the Apple and Caramel Vodkas into the spouted mixing bowl and sprinkle the gelatin on top. Gelatin can be tricky to work with when using it the first time. The secret is to ‘slowly’ sprinkle the gelatin on top of the liquid. If you see it clumping up, you are spreading it too quickly.

Let the gelatin mixture sit for 7 minutes.

In the meantime, simmer the water. Add your first gel food coloring to the simmering water and stir until combined.

Then, pour the water and food coloring mixture into the gelatin mixture and stir for 3 minutes.

Add the sweetened condensed milk and simple syrup and stir until combined well.

Slowly pour the mixture into your Jello Shot cups until they are half full.

Refrigerate for 1 hour before starting the top layer.

To Make the Second Team Color

Pour the Apple and Caramel Vodkas into the spouted mixing bowl and sprinkle the gelatin on top.

Let the gelatin mixture sit for 7 minutes.

In the meantime, simmer the water. This time, use your second gel food coloring and add it to the simmering water, stirring until combined. Note: If your second color is white, there is no need to add any food coloring.

Then, pour the water and food coloring mixture into the gelatin mixture and stir for 3 minutes.

Add the sweetened condensed milk and simple syrup and stir until combined well.

Let the mixture cool for 10 minutes. Stir mixture.

Top off the Jello cups with your second color and refrigerate for 3 hours before placing the lids on the cups. Jello Shots can be made 2 days in advance and refrigerated until ready to serve.

Notes

Gelatin can be tricky to work with when used in a recipe. The secret is to ‘slowly ‘sprinkle the Gelatin on top of the liquid. If you see it clumping up, you are sprinkling too quickly. If you have some dry patches, don’t worry; ensure your water is boiling before adding it to the gelatin mixture and stir until the clumps are dissolved.

If you want a darker color, add a tablespoon of hot water and 1/4 teaspoon of gel food color to a small bowl and stir until combined. Then, add the food color mixture to your gelatin mixture and mix well.
