Gel Food Coloring
If you’ve never used gel food coloring you’ve come to the right place. At Easy Drinks and Appetizers, I use the Wilton and AmeriColor gel food coloring when mixing up my NCAA College Football Jello Shots.

Which Gel Food Coloring Works Best?
I purchased the 12 pack of gel food coloring above so that I could match the Jello Shots to the NCAA College Football Teams colors. The box contains 12 – .5-ounce containers, see the round gel food coloring on the right of the box. A .5-ounce container of color will make 2 batches (1 color) of the NCAA College Football Jello Shots. If you plan to make more than 2 batches, you should get a 1-ounce container of your Team colors, which is sold separately. The 1-ounce container is on the left of the box.
On the other hand, silver, gray and gold gel food coloring is not easy to find but I was able to get it in the AmeriColor brand. As you can see, I used ‘Stone‘ for silver and gray.

The gel food coloring can be a bit more difficult to dissolve than the liquid but for the Jello Shots, just mix it with the boiling water and then pour the boiling water mixed with gel food coloring into the Jello Shot mix.
Create most any color
With this 12 pack of gel food coloring, you can create any color! For instance, I needed Navy Blue. So, I googled, how do you make ‘navy blue’. Google came back with add a little bit of black to blue. I took a small amount of the boiling water, no more than an ounce, added the blue gel and mixed in just a drop of black. I stirred it well and continued to add very small drops of black until it turned a shade that matched the color of the NCAA College Football Team color.
